Frugal 5 Friday

Frugal 5 Friday 2/9/18

Economy, Investment And Saving Concept

We’ve continued on our major house purge and we’re starting to see some major changes. I cleaned out our junk drawer and our tea cupboard and both make me so happy now! Not frugal but we purchased some heavy duty shelving for our basement and pulled out the particle board shelves that were bowing and came with the house (poorly attached to the walls). This gave me a space for all of our paper supplies ( I buy toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues when they hit rock bottom prices and stock up for at least 6 months at a time). Now that we’re making progress we’re feeling more and more motivated to continue.

I find that when I’m motivated to clean out and save money, little things happen that let me know I’m on the right track. This week Frugal Husband discovered that he could answer a quick 2 question survey and would get a $50 gift card, in doing so he discovered that I could do that same! We’re going to hold on to them until Christmas time.

Also this week, I was able to buy 9 pairs of flannel lined jeans (a few pairs were new with tags), and a pair of pajamas for Frugal Kid #1 for very little money from a local facebook yard sale group. I almost NEVER manage deals like that because I don’t see them when they get posted, but I happened to be on my lunch break and caught the post almost immediately.

The most exciting thing that happened this week was my company’s announcement that they were going to be giving everyone a one time stock bonus! Woot! This has never happened before! We’re going to leave it right where it is (it takes a year to vest), and let it be part of our retirement nest egg. As it stands now, husband’s company automatically contributes into an account for him and I contribute to mine in order to get the company match, but we (I’m sure lots of other people too) could stand to be contributing more so this is a nice surprise.

That’s all for me! How are you doing?
