State of the Frugal Union

March 1st 2018 State of the Frugal Union

business background

Here we are! March! It was a good month we had lots of fun for valentine’s day and my birthday, and now reality is setting in- we’ve got work to do! I had a terrible and super realistic dream that I lost my job and after totally freaking out about it I had a realization that one of the main reasons why we’re working so hard to eliminate debt is so if that were to ever happen in real life I wouldn’t be totally panic stricken. So here are the numbers:

  1. Frugal house- $205,500
  2. Frugal Student Loans- $161,000
  3. Frugal Private Student Loan- $3345
  4. Frugal Car 1- $14,000
  5. Frugal Car 2- $14,000
  6. Frugal Credit Cards Total- $35,100

Total= $1,204 paid off this month- progress, but I generally get a bonus every quarter and I had planned on using at least part of it to pay off debt this month, it hasn’t shown up yet so hopefully next month we can make a big chunky payment- I’m hoping for a 3k month.

This time of year is typically when we make our best debt payments so Frugal Husband and I are doing our best to work extra hours at our second jobs- it looks like May is going to be our best month ever, my stretch goal is a $4000 payment on debt.

From a frugal standpoint we’ve continued on our journey of clearing things out and I finally got around to posting some of the kids clothes we don’t use anymore for sale, if all goes as planned we should be making close to $100 within the next few days- not bad for clothes that I was getting ready to donate.

We also got our biggest electric bill EVER. Like it was so high I called the electric company because I didn’t believe them. So that has prompted me to start making a big effort to turn off as much as possible when not in use. A couple of times a day I go through the house, unplug and turn things off (thus annoying everyone in the house, hehehe). I’m hoping it makes an impact.

Finally- we did really well with meal planning this week. I planned 5 meals, we ate 5 meals and there were not a whole lot of leftovers.

So lots of goals, lots of plans, I’m hoping this week to write more about our clean out and the progress we’ve made so far. Tootles!
